AKRON, Ohio --The Alabama State men's basketball team got a 28-point showing from the bench, but fell 97-78 to the Akron Zips on the road Sunday.
The Hornets (3-3) had three players score in double figures, led by CJ Hines, who had 19 points. Tyler Mack tacked on 18 points off the bench and TJ Madlock chipped in with 17 points.
The ASU offense was very productive from three-point land, pouring in 16 threes on 33 attempts. Mack was the most prolific shooter for the Hornets, draining six treys in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 29-24, ASU went on a 6-0 run with 7:26 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Tyler Mack, to take a 30-29 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 50-41.
Akron kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 96-73 advantage before Alabama State went on a 5-0 run, finished by Shawn Fulcher's layup, to shrink the deficit to 96-78 with 57 seconds to go in the contest.
