Alabama State Pushes UNLV to the Brink

LAS VEGAS, Nev.  --The Alabama State men's basketball team dropped a 93-79 decision at UNLV on Monday evening.

The Hornets (0-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Amarr Knox, who had 19 points, five assists, and two steals. TJ Madlock tacked on 14 points and four assists and Micah Octave helped with 13 points.

ASU took advantage of excellent ball movement in Monday's game, piling up 15 assists on 27 made field goals. Individually, CJ Hines led the way for the Hornets with five assists.

How It Happened

After falling behind 33-25, ASU went on a 6-0 run with 7:02 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 33-31. UNLV answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 46-41 entering halftime.

UNLV kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 60-49 advantage before Alabama State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by D'Ante Bass' three, to shrink the deficit to 60-54 with 12:42 to go in the contest. UNLV responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 93-79. The Hornets got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 10 of its 38 total points.
