Quotable from head coach Tony Madlock
Opening statement about two games in the state of Louisiana..
"Well it starts with Grambling and it's always tough to go on the road and we understand that, but to go to the first place teams in the league. We were right there in the first half and came out in the second half and went up by one. We just didn't make enough plays down the stretch and when you're on the road you have to do things as close to perfect as possible. You have to get 50/50 balls, you have to be able to score the basketball and we shot about 30 percent that game. It just didn't turn out the way we wanted it to."
Â
Tonight's game, you were able to get close late…
"It's a game of runs, we talk about it all the time. You are going to be on either side of that run and when things aren't going good, you have to find a way to fight through it like we did tonight. Again we were on the road with a team that is tied for first place and defensively we just didn't make the plays we needed to make late. You have to make winning plays no matter what it is whether it's getting a big rebound, getting on the floor for a loose ball, you got to take a charge, make a tough shot, we just didn't do it. The guys fought, I'm proud of how we fought. We didn't rebound the ball like we normally do, we are really good in offensive rebounding but we were only able to get five. The biggest difference in the game was at the free throw line, they made eight more than we did – the numbers look similar but they were 19 out of 23. We just didn't get to the line enough, we didn't drive the ball, and weren't aggressive and make the officials make the call. We will continue to work on those things."
Â
Getting a chance to get back on track and do it at home…
"It's always good. We are excited to get back in front of our fans with a good team in UAPB coming in. We know they can shoot and are really explosive, we are just going to have to be locked in this week, guard the line, and get out fast."
