BATON ROUGE, LA | Justina Graham led Alabama State women's basketball with a career-high 22 points but Southern University pulled away late for a 79-63 win over Alabama State University on Monday.
Justina Graham led the Hornets (3-19, 3-8) with 22 points and two steals. Cordasia Harris tacked on eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks and DaKiyah Sanders chipped in five points and six assists.
Led by Ashley Gray's three offensive rebounds, Alabama State crashed the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in eight second chance points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 17-10 at the end of the first quarter.
Southern kept adding to that lead, building a 37-22 advantage before Alabama State went on a 5-0 run to narrow its deficit to 37-27, a score that would hold until halftime.
After intermission, Alabama State cut its deficit to 43-35 before going on an 8-0 run to tie things up at 43 with 4:53 to go in the third. The Hornets could not advance their rally further as the Jaguars took a 54-49 lead into the fourth quarter. Alabama State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled 15 of the team's 22 third-quarter points.
Alabama State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 79-63. Alabama State took advantage of four Southern turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
