MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Cordasia Harris collected career-high 33 points, but the Alabama State women's basketball team fell to the Mississippi Valley State 67-59 at at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Monday.
Harris added 12 rebounds and three blocks to her 33 point game to record her seventh double-double to lead the Lady Hornets. Anaja Hall helped out with 10 points and two blocks and DaKiyah Sanders chipped in with three points and five assists.
Alabama State out-rebounded Mississippi Valley State 42-35 that include 21 offensive rebounds. ASU also scored 22 second chance points.
Alabama State forced 15 Mississippi Valley State turnovers. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 10 points on the other end of the floor. Kristian Jackson led the way individually with one steal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 22-16 at the end of the first quarter.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 40-30 halftime deficit.
Alabama State came out of halftime on fire, going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Harris, to trim its deficit to 40-37 with 8:45 to go in the third. Mississippi Valley State countered and stretched its lead to 52-47 heading into the fourth. Alabama State played well near the basket, scoring 16 of its 17 points in the paint.
Alabama State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 67-59. Alabama State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 12 points in the paint.
