MONTGOMERY, Ala. --Mistakes proved costly for Alabama State University in a 4-0 losss to Hampton University in the season opener at Stinger Classic on Friday.
Junior Charity Bibbs (0-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Alabama State (0-1). The right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing no walks and striking out two. Junior Olivia Brown was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out one.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by junior Alexia Denby, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama State managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Hornets last got a runner on third in the fourth, when Denby made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
GAME NOTES
» Alabama State pitchers faced 32 Hampton hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out three.
