DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --The Alabama State scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn a 6-4 win and doubleheader split against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday. BCU won game one 7-1 to win the series 2-1.
Junior Charity Bibbs (6-8) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Alabama State (12-16, 2-4). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing no walks and striking out one.
Junior Leah Richardson led the way offensively for the Hornets, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Alana Scott furnished a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Freshman Kendall Smiley also contributed, going 2-for-4 for Alabama State with a triple.

The Hornets were trailing 7-0 in the seventh inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State got an RBI single from Richardson, scoring Gardner from third base. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.

The Wildcats then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-2 lead before the Hornets got back on the board in the fourth. Alabama State picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Scott, which brought the score level at 4-4.
That 4-4 tie turned into a 6-4 Alabama State lead in the seventh. Alabama State scored two runs, including one on a solo homer from Richardson. The score remained 6-4 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State held on for the win.
