HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Solangelei Akridge scored 15 points but it was not enough as Alabama Stte women's basketball fell to Alabama A&M 58-47 on Saturday.
The Hornets (3-24, 3-13) had two players score in double figures, led by Akridge, who had 15 points. Cordasia Harris tacked on 10 points, nine rebounds and four blocks and DaKiyah Sanders added three points, seven assists and two steals.
Alabama State did a great job disrupting Alabama A&M shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Harris' four rejections led the way individually for the Hornets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama State kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 17-13.
The Hornets fought back in the second period, narrowing the deficit to 24-22 by the time halftime rolled around.
Alabama A&M continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 37-34 advantage before Alabama State went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from April Hooks, to grab a 39-37 lead with 53 seconds to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Alabama State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled six of the team's 17 third-quarter points.
Alabama A&M then erased the Alabama State lead in the game's final quarter for a 58-47 comeback victory. Alabama State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its eight points.
