BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --Junior Jordyn Partain and sophomore Sara Bond combined to throw a shutout on Wednesday as the Samford Bulldogs blanked the Alabama State Hornets 4-0.
Junior Charity Bibbs (7-10) got the ball to start for Alabama State (15-18) and took the loss.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by senior Jaeda Gardner, who went 1-for-3 on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama State did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Hornets went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the second, when sophomore Brooke Ramsey made it into scoring position with one out.
GAME NOTES
» Alabama State pitchers faced 25 Samford hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out three.
» Gardner led the Hornets at the plate, going 1-for-3.
» Samford was led offensively by freshman Olivia Shaw, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
» Partain led the Bulldogs pitching staff, throwing five shutout innings.
