Alabama State Softball Comes Up Short Against Alabama A&M

MONTGOMERY, Ala, | Alabama State University softball fell to Alabama A&M University, 6-4, in the opener of a three-game series on Friday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex..

Freshman Kohana Pousson (2-4) started and took the loss in the circle for Alabama State (15-19, ). Freshman Ana Richiez was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 5.2 innings, surrendering one run on five hits.

In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by senior Kindal DeRamus, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double, a walk and two RBI. Sophomore Alana Scott put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. Sophomore Brooke Ramsey also contributed for Alabama State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 3-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the first inning. Ramsey's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Alabama State.

The Hornets deficit expanded to 6-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the sixth inning. Alabama State pushed across a run on DeRamus' two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 6-3 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Alabama State kept the Bulldogs off the board before narrowing the gap to 6-4 in the seventh. The Hornets scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Scott. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
