MONTGOMERY, Ala, | After dropping the series opener, the Alabama State Unviersity softball rebounded to sweep a doublheaer from rival Alabama A&M University by the scores of 15-1 and 9-1 on Saturday.
GAME 1 | Alabama State 15, Alabama A&M 1
Alabama State received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Hornets put 15 runs on the board and knock off the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 15-1 Saturday.
Junior Charity Bibbs (8-10) got the win for Alabama State (16-19, ). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by senior Kindal DeRamus, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and two RBI. Sophomore Brooke Ramsey put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Junior Alexia Denby also helped out for Alabama State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1
The Hornets got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Alabama State's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a one-run single off the bat of Ramsey.
The Bulldogs then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 6-1 until the Hornets expanded their advantage in the third. The Alabama State offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of junior Leah Richardson, which brought the score to 12-1 in favor of the Hornets.
Alabama State held Alabama A&M scoreless before building their lead to 15-1 the following inning. The score remained 15-1 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State coasted to the win.

At the plate, the Hornets were led by senior Kindal DeRamus, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a triple, a walk and an RBI. Senior Lauryn Maher put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Senior Jaeda Gardner also contributed for Alabama State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2
The Hornets were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a one-run single off the bat of sophomore JaNiyah Boykin.
The Bulldogs failed to push any runs across before the Hornets offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Gardner came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State, which brought the Hornets lead to 7-1.
Alabama State held Alabama A&M scoreless before building their lead to 8-1 in the fourth inning. The Hornets scored a run on an RBI triple from DeRamus, scoring Boykin from third.
Alabama State held the Bulldogs without a run before their offense got things moving the next inning. The Hornets scored once on a run-scoring single off the bat of Maher, bringing the Alabama State advantage to 9-1. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as the Hornets coasted to the win.
