JACKSONVILLE, Ala. | Freshman Juan Cruz went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run for the Alabama State baseball in a 7-3 loss to Jacksonville State University at Rudy Abbott Field-Jim Case Stadium on Tuesday.
Sophomore Devin Brooks (1-2) took the loss on the mound for Alabama State (16-18). Junior Will Smith was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Alabama State scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run homer from Cruz. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as Jacksonville State scored five times over the remaining five innings to grab the 7-3 win.
