MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University softball team rebounded from 10-0 loss in game one clean game to 11- win in the nightcap to split a doubleheader Bethune-Cookman University on Friday at the Barbara-Williams Softball Complex.
GAME 2 | Alabama State 11, Bethune-Cookman 4
Sophomore Brooke Ramsey and sophomore Alana Scott each collected three RBIs to help power the Alabama State Hornets past the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 11-4 on Friday.
Junior Charity Bibbs (10-12) started in the circle and picked up the win for Alabama State (22-26, ). The right-hander went six innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on eight hits, allowing three walks and striking out two.
Scott went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a walk in addition to her three RBIs and Ramsey put together a 1-for-4 day with a double, supplementing her three RBI performance for the Hornets. Freshman Kendall Smiley compiled a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning.
The Hornets then held the Wildcats scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Alabama State plated two runs off of Bethune-Cookman pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Scott, which brought the Hornets lead to 5-0.
Bethune-Cookman narrowed Alabama State's lead to 5-3 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 10-3 in the fourth inning. The Hornets bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a two-run single off the bat of junior Leah Richardson and a two-run double from Ramsey.
The Wildcats gained ground, closing the gap to 10-4 until Alabama State added some insurance in the sixth. The Hornets scored once on a run-scoring single off the bat of junior Alexia Denby, bringing the score to 11-4 in favor of Alabama State. The score remained 11-4 for the rest of the game, as the Hornets coasted to the win.

The Alabama State Hornets were not able to score a run against Bethune-Cookman pitcher junior Halyne Gonzalez on Friday and were shut out 10-0 by the Wildcats.
Freshman Ana Richiez (6-3) got the ball to start for Alabama State (21-26, ) and took the loss.
Offensively, the Hornets were led by senior Kindal DeRamus, who went 1-for-2 with a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama State managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The Hornets last got a runner on third in the fourth, when sophomore JaNiyah Boykin made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
