MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alana Scott hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to help Alabama State softball earn a 4-3 win over Bethune-Cookman on Senior Day at the Barbara Williams Softball complex.
Junior Charity Bibbs (12-12) got the win out of the bullpen for Alabama State (23-26, ). The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on four hits, allowing three walks and striking out four.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by sophomore Alana Scott, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a triple, a home run and two RBI. Sophomore Brooke Ramsey furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Alabama State got an RBI single from Ramsey, scoring freshman Kendall Smiley from second base.
The Hornets lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 3-1. Scott came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Wildcats.
Alabama State kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard before rallying to grab a 4-3 lead in the sixth. The Hornets added two to their tally on Scott's two-run homer to left. The score remained 4-3 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State held on for the win.
