JACKSON, Miss. | Alabama State softball swept a doubleheader from homestanding Jackson State by the scores for 14-10 and 4-3 on Friday.
GAME 1
Senior Kindal DeRamus racked up four hits to help lead the Alabama State Hornets over the Jackson State Tigers 14-10 on Friday.
Junior Charity Bibbs (11-12) started in the circle and picked up the win for Alabama State (24-26, ). The right-hander went 4.2 innings, giving up seven runs, three earned, on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out four.
In addition to her four hits, DeRamus had a double, a triple and two RBI to lead the Hornets. Sophomore Alana Scott compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Junior Alexia Denby also contributed for Alabama State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets scored in six different innings on the way to victory. Alabama State broke a 1-1 tie and took the lead for good at 2-1 in the second inning The big hit for the Hornets in the inning was a one-run ground out off the bat of junior Leah Richardson.

Alabama State erased a 3-2 deficit in the sixth inning to win in exciting fashion, tallying two runs in the seventh to earn a 4-3 victory over the Jackson State Tigers Friday.
Freshman Kohana Pousson (4-6) got the win for Alabama State (25-26qw). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out four.
At the plate, the Hornets were paced by freshman Kendall Smiley, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Senior Kindal DeRamus put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Sophomore Brooke Ramsey also helped out for Alabama State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Smiley came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board.
The Tigers then rallied to score three runs and take a 3-1 lead before the Hornets got back on the board in the fifth. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Smiley, which tightened the Tigers lead to 3-2.
Alabama State held the Tigers off the board before rallying to grab a 4-3 lead in the seventh. The score remained 4-3 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State held on for the win.
