Alabama State Softball Drops Twin Bill To Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Alabama State Unversity dropped pair of games to Florida A&M University by the scores of 9-4 and 9-3 on Saturday.

GAME 1 | Florida A&M 6, Alabama State 4
The Alabama State Hornets got three hits out of junior Leah Richardson in a 6-4 loss to the Florida A&M  Saturday.

Junior Charity Bibbs (9-11) started and took the loss in the circle for Alabama State (18-21, 8-6). Freshman Ana Richiez was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going three innings, surrendering one run on four hits, walking none and striking out one.

In addition to her three hits, Richardson had two doubles and two RBI to lead the Hornets. Sophomore Alana Scott furnished a standout effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Freshman Kendall Smiley also helped out for Alabama State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1

The Hornets were trailing 4-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Scott put Alabama State on the board with a one-out solo home run off freshman Zoryana Hughes.

The Hornets deficit grew to 5-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fifth inning. Alabama State pushed across a run on Richardson's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Rattlerettes.

Florida A&M built their lead to 6-2 before the Alabama State offense got going, reducing that lead to 6-4 in the seventh. The Hornets recorded two runs off of Florida A&M pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Richardson. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.

The Alabama State Hornets got a boost from junior Alexia Denby, who totaled three hits in a 9-3 loss to the Florida A&M Rattlerettes Saturday.

Freshman Kohana Pousson (2-6) started and took the loss in the circle for Alabama State (18-22, 8-7).

In addition to her three hits, Denby had an RBI to lead the Hornets. Senior Kindal DeRamus put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Freshman Kendall Smiley also contributed for Alabama State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2

The Hornets were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Denby came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board.

The Hornets kept the deficit at 2-1 before tying the score in the third. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Denby, which brought the score level at 2-2.

Florida A&M broke that tie and grabbed a 4-2 lead heading into the sixth, when Alabama State narrowed the gap to 4-3. The Hornets scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Smiley. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Florida A&M added five runs to their tally on the way to a 9-3 final.
