TALLAHASSEE, Fla, | -Freshman Isaiah Landry collected three extra base hits, but Alabama State University basell fell to the Florida A&M University 9-8 on Sunday.
Sophomore Austin King (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Alabama State (13-16, 5-6) and took the loss. Junior Will Smith was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing one shutout inning, allowing two hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
Landry's three extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-5 day, and included a double, a triple, a home run and two RBI. Senior Randy Flores put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double, two walks and an RBI. Sophomore Jamal George also contributed for the Hornets, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Alabama State managed to push across two runs in the inning.
The Rattlers failed to push any runs across before the Hornets offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Flores' run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Alabama State scored twice, which brought the Hornets lead to 4-0.
Alabama State kept Florida A&M without a run before building their lead to 7-0 in the fourth inning.
Alabama State gave up the lead they built in the fourth, but got back on the scoreboard in the seventh trailing 8-7. The Hornets sent home a run on Landry's one-out RBI double, tying the score at 8-8. Florida A&M then scored one time over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 9-8 win.
