ATLANTA, Ga. | Despite picking up 10 hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Grambling, Alabama State was unable to push across more runs, as the Hornets were defeated by the Tigers 6-3 on Wednesday.
Sophomore Jorhan Laboy (6-4) took the loss on the mound for Alabama State (28-26). Junior Caio Araujo was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.2 innings, surrendering one run on three hits, walking one and striking out one.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by senior Randy Flores, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run, two walks and two RBI. Freshman Quentin Jenkins put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Senior Cristian Lopez also chipped in for Alabama State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Alabama State got an RBI single from Jenkins, scoring sophomore Jamal George from third base.
The Hornets lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 5-1. Alabama State scored twice on Flores' two-run homer, which tightened the Tigers lead to 5-3. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Grambling added one run to their tally on the way to a 6-3 final.
