HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Alabama State rallied from an 11-1 defict only Alabama A&M score in the bottom of the ninth for a 12-11 win on Satirday.
Senior Se. Colon (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Alabama State (22-22, 13-9) and took the loss. The right-hander went four innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out six.
Landry's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included two doubles and a walk. Freshman J. Cruz made his contribution with two doubles and two RBI, part of a 3-for-5 performance at the plate. Hay also helped out for the Hornets, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double, a home run, a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Senior C. Lopez put Alabama State on the board with a leadoff home run off sophomore A. Mateo.
The Bulldogs then rallied to score 11 runs and take an 11-1 lead before the Hornets got back on the board in the sixth. The Alabama State offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of junior K. McIntosh, which brought the score to 11-7 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Alabama State kept the Bulldogs off the board before narrowing the gap to 11-8 in the seventh. The Hornets picked up a run on Hay's one-out solo home run off freshman C. Lazo.
