JACKSON, Miss. -- Amarr Knox scored 24 points, but the Alabama State men's basketball team fell to the Jackson State Tigers 77-70 on the road Saturday.
The Hornets (6-10, 2-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Knox, who had 24 points and four assists. CJ Hines tacked on 14 points, and Micah Simpson helped out with 10 points from the bench.
Micah Octave pulled down five offensive rebounds to lead the Alabama State offense which grabbed 13 boards and turned them into 13 second-chance points.
Alabama State forced 14 Jackson State turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Saturday's game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 15 points on the offensive end of the floor. Octave's three steals led the way for Alabama State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 21-13, Alabama State went on a 10-0 run with 11:32 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Knox, to take a 23-21 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 37-35.
Jackson State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 51-44 advantage before Alabama State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Simpson's layup, to shrink the deficit to 51-50 with 11:35 to go in the contest. Jackson State responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 77-70. Alabama State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 35 points in the lane.
