Alabama State falls 67-65 to Alcorn State

LORMAN, Miss. --The Alabama State men's basketball team got a 35-point performance from the bench but fell 67-65 to the Alcorn State Braves on the road Monday.

The Hornets (6-11, 2-2) had two players score in double figures, led by CJ Hines, who had 13 points. Amarr Knox added 11 points, four assists, and two steals. D'Ante Bass added five points and six rebounds.

Alabama State out-rebounded Alcorn State 33-32 in Monday's game, paced by Bass' six boards. The Hornets also collected 16 offensive rebounds and scored 15 second-chance points.

The Alabama State defense was effective at taking away the basketball and forced 13 Alcorn State turnovers while committing 10. Those takeaways turned into 19 points on the other end of the floor. 

How It Happened

After falling behind 1-0, Alabama State went on a 5-0 run with 18:12 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Bass, to take a 5-1 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 32-30.

Alcorn State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 52-45 advantage before Alabama State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Tyler MacK's three, to shrink the deficit to 52-51 with 6:35 to go in the contest. Alcorn State responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 67-65. Alabama State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 35 points.
