Alabama State Rallies in 2nd Half and Defeats Alabama A&M in Thriller

HUNTSVILLE, Ala --The Alabama State men's basketball team went into the half trailing Alabama A&M 37-24, but fought back from the deficit to beat the Bulldogs 69-65 on the road Saturday.

The Hornets (7-11, 3-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Micah Simpson, who had 14 points. Amarr Knox added 14 points and TJ Madlock helped with a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Micah Octave pulled down five offensive rebounds to lead the Alabama State offense, which grabbed 20 boards and turned them into 14 second-chance points.

Alabama State forced 15 Alabama A&M turnovers while committing 10 themselves in Saturday's game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 20 points on the offensive end of the floor. Shawn Fulcher's three steals led the way for Alabama State.

How It Happened

Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 37-24 heading into halftime.

Alabama State narrowed its deficit to 48-46 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Simpson's three, to seize a 53-48 lead with 9:15 to go in the contest.  Alabama State capitalized on eight Alabama A&M turnovers in the period, collecting 16 points off those turnovers.
