MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- TJ Madlock registered a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Alabama State men's basketball team over the Prairie View A&M Panthers 66-63 at home Saturday.
Amarr Knox tacked on 14 points, and CJ Hines chipped in with 13 points for the Hornets (8-11, 4-2).

Alabama State's defense held Prairie View A&M to only 37.3 percent shooting from the field, including 22.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Panthers did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass, either. They finished with seven offensive rebounds and managed two second-chance points, while Alabama State cleared 33 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After falling behind 4-2, Alabama State went on a 5-0 run with 17:21 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Micah Octave, to take a 7-4 lead. The Hornets entered halftime with a 28-26 advantage. Alabama State did most of its first-half damage in the paint, scoring 16 of its 28 points close to the basket.
Alabama State kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 53-45 with 7:18 to go in the contest. The Panthers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game ended, but the Hornets still held on for the 66-63 win. Alabama State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 38 points in the lane.
