Hines' last-second shot lifts Alabama State over UAPB 93-91

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- CJ Hines knocked down a shot with less than a second to go to lead the Alabama State men's basketball team over the UAPB Golden Lions 93-91 at home Monday.

The Hornets (6-9, 2-0) had five players score in double figures, led by Hines, who had 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Amarr Knox added 20 points and Micah Octave helped with 13 points and two steals.

ASU shared the ball well in Monday's game, racking 18 assists on 31 made field goals. Individually, Micah Simpson led the way for the Hornets with five assists.

The ASU defense was a problem in Monday's game, forcing 14 UAPB turnovers while committing eight. Those takeaways turned into 19 points on the other end of the floor. Octave led the way individually for the Hornets with two steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 20-10, ASU went on a 6-0 run with 13:41 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Simpson, to narrow its deficit to 20-16. UAPB answered and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 50-41 entering halftime.

ASU came out of halftime clicking on all cylinders, going on an 8-0 run to shrink the deficit to 50-49 with 16:16 to go in the contest.
