BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) announced Wednesday that Alabama State University senior outside hitter Jyriah Morgan has been named the SWAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore setter Kamrynn Clay as the SWAC So-Setter of the Week.
This is the third time this season Morgan has received the honor and in leading the Hornets to a pair of wins to open conference season she recorded 26 kills in six matches. Against Grambling, the Pleasant Grove, Ala., native had 14 kills without an error in only 20 attacks for a .700 attack percentage.
On the season, Morgan's 161 kills is second in the conference while her 3.74 kills per set leads the SWAC.
Clay, a 2024 All-SWAC performer as a freshman, had a week which saw her have over 30 assists for the third consecutive match. She had a season-high 35 assists in the Hornets' win over Grambling, and followed that up with a new season-high when she collected 39 assists in the three-set win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Clay has now received the honor twice this season and has 277 assists which leads the SWAC. She is also the conference leader in assists per set averaging 6.16.
Morgan and Clay will lead the Hornets into another big home weekend as ASU welcomes Florida A&M to Lockhart Gymnasium for a 6 p.m. Friday match, and will host Bethune-Cookman in a Sunday afternoon matinee beginning at noon.
