JACKSON, Miss. | Alabama State University could get into the end zone from the one-yard line on the final play for the game, falling 38-34 to Jackson State University in a thriller at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Jackson State's Ja'Cobian Morgan connected with Nate Rembert on an 18-yard touchdown with just 50 seconds remaining, capping a 68-yard drive that spoiled Alabama State's comeback bid.
With 6.5 seconds left,
Andrew Body completed a 20-yard pass Dylan DJete to the JSU1. The clock appeared to have expired but after a review, one second added back on the clock.

Alabama State (4–2, 2–1 SWAC) put up 514 yards of total offense behind a balanced attack led by quarterback
Body, who threw for 349 yards and a touchdown while adding 93 yards rushing. Running back
Hostzclaw scored twice on the ground, while
Marcus Harris II added another rushing touchdown.
The Hornets trailed 31–20 midway through the fourth quarter before rallying with back-to-back scoring drives. Body hit
Jalen Jones for an 8-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 31–27 with 7:07 left, and after the defense forced a fumble recovered by
Zaquan Patterson, Hostzclaw scored from 15 yards out to give Alabama State its first lead of the day, 34–31with 4:36 remaining.
Morgan and the Tigers (5–1, 3–0 SWAC) answered in the closing minute, converting a pair of third downs on the decisive drive before the game-winning strike to Rembert.
Jones led ASU's receivers with six catches for 72 yards and a score, while
Djete added 82 yards and
Ajai Harrell finished with 66. Kicker
Andrew Abu-Akel was perfect on the day, connecting on field goals of 42 and 36 yards and all four extra points.
Defensively,
Jalil Lenore anchored the Hornets with 15 tackles, while
Ta'Shaun Sims recorded an interception and
Tre Phillips forced a fumble.
Jackson State totaled 444 yards of offense, including 257 on the ground. Morgan threw four touchdowns and added 66 rushing yards, while Ja'Naylon Dupree caught two of his scoring passes.
Alabama State has the week off before battling Alabama A&M University in the Amazon Magic City Classic presented by Coke-Cola on Saturday, Oct. 25. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. from Historic Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala.
