ITTA BENA, Miss. — Alabama State volleyball picked up a dominant road win on Sunday afternoon, sweeping Mississippi Valley State 3–0 (25–16, 25–12, 25–10) inside the Harrison HPER Complex.
The Hornets controlled the match from start to finish, improving to 5-13 overall and 4-2 in SWAC play, while the Devilettes dropped to 3–10 and 0–5 in the conference.
Alabama State's attack was firing on all cylinders, posting a .421 hitting percentage for the match while limiting MVSU to just .103. The Hornets' efficiency improved each set, hitting .154, .565, and .556 respectively.
Jyriah Morgan led the way with 10 kills on a .286 hitting percentage and added three digs and three blocks. Taylor Williams followed with nine kills, while Kamrynn Clay anchored the offense with 27 assists, four kills, and five digs. Kaylen Hines chipped in four kills at a .571 clip, and Madisynne McQueen tallied six kills with three blocks.
Defensively, Breanna Swanson recorded a team-high seven digs, and Alabama State out-blocked Mississippi Valley 7–3 overall.
The Hornets set the tone early, jumping out to an 8–2 lead in the opening frame before cruising to a 25–16 win. They never trailed the rest of the way, using a 12–4 run in the second set and a 10–2 burst in the third to close out the sweep in just over an hour.
Alabama State will return home to host rival Alabama A&M on Friday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. at Lockhart Gymnasium.
