ASU Volleyball Completes Regular Season Sweep Over Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama State volleyball extended its winning streak in conference play with a hard-fought 3-1 victory (19–25, 25–17, 25–23, 25–18) over in-state rival Alabama A&M on Tuesday night at Elmore Gymnasium.

After dropping the opening set, the Hornets (now 7-13 overall, 6-2 SWAC) regrouped behind a balanced offensive attack led by Camille Holloway, who tallied 13 kills on a .480 hitting percentage, and Jyriah Morgan who finished with 12 kills. Setter Kamrynn Clay fueled the offense with 37 assists and completed a double-double with 12 digs, keeping the Bulldogs' defense off balance.

Defensively, Alabama State controlled the net with eight total blocks, compared to Alabama A&M's single block. Kaylen Hines led the defense at the net with a match-high five total blocks to go along with her nine kills. Taylor Williams led the back line of defense with 18 digs to go along with her six kills, including the match-winner in the fourth set. Sierra Scanlan finished with 15 kills and Brooke Adams added 13 as the Hornets finished with 77 digs.

Alabama A&M (14-7, 5–3 SWAC) came out strong in the first set, hitting .280 to take a 25–19 win, paced by Fatima Ramierz's 12 kills and Briana Smith's 27 assists. But the Hornets flipped momentum in the second set, hitting a blistering .387 as they evened the match with a 25–17 win.

The third set proved pivotal as Alabama State edged the Bulldogs 25–23 behind late kills from Holloway and Hines. The Hornets carried that momentum into the fourth, cruising to a 25–18 clincher behind dominant front-row play and strong serving from Clay and Williams.

Alabama State's offensive efficiency shined throughout the night, finishing with a .218 team hitting percentage while holding Alabama A&M to just .152. The Hornets are back home for their next two matches, hosting league-leading Prairie View A&M Friday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m., and Texas Southern on Sunday, Oct. 26 at noon.
