Volleyball Pulls Out a Five-Set Thriller at Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Alabama State battled through five sets to earn a hard-fought 3–2 win over Bethune-Cookman on Sunday afternoon at Richard V. Moore Gymnasium.

The Hornets dropped the opening set 25–22 but answered with a 27–25 victory in the second. Bethune-Cookman reclaimed the edge with a 28–26 third-set win before Alabama State regrouped to take the fourth 27–25 and the deciding fifth 15–12.

Kaylen Hines led the Hornets' attack with a match-high 24 kills, hitting an efficient .321 while adding a team-best four total blocks and a dig. Kamrynn Clay directed the offense with 57 assists and chipped in 17 digs to complete another double-double. Brooke Adams anchored the defense with a match-best 25 digs, as the Hornets finished the match with 89 for the match.

Sierra Scanlan added 14 digs and three assists, while Taylor Williams finished with 12 digs. Jyriah Morgan was once again clutch at the net, contributing 20 kills and two total blocks.

Alabama State outhit Bethune-Cookman .232 to .229 and totaled seven team blocks.

The win keeps the Hornets among the league leaders with a 8-4 SWAC record. The Hornets return home next week to host Jackson State in a key conference matchup on Friday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. at Lockhart Gymnasium.
