TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Alabama State came up short in the SWAC Championship semifinals on Nov. 22, falling 3–1 to Southern University at the Al Lawson Multipurpose Center in Tallahassee. The Hornets battled throughout but were unable to overcome Southern's efficiency at the net, dropping the match 25–23, 17–25, 22–25, 20–25.
Alabama State found its best rhythm early, taking the first set 25–23 behind efficient hitting and strong side-out play, posting a .389 hitting percentage in the opening frame. Jyriah Morgan anchored the Alabama State offense with a match-high 25 kills and a .538 hitting mark on 39 attacks. Setter Kamrynn Clay facilitated well, recording double-digit assists in multiple sets and finishing with 36.
Zanobia Willis contributed with eight kills, while Madisynne McQueen and Kaylen Hines had seven. Brooke Adams finished the match with 20 digs.
Southern won the second set 25-17 hitting .310 as a team. That momentum carried into the third set as Southern hit .317, and scored the final five points of the fourth set after the score was even at 20 to move into Sunday's championship final.
The Jaguars were led by Ariana Brown who finished the match with 22 kills and a .439 hitting percentage.
Following the championship, Jyriah Morgan and Brooke Adams were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Hornets end the season 14-16 overall and finished tied for second in the SWAC with a 12-4 record.
