ASU Soccer Falls to Jackson State at SWAC Tournament

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — Alabama State's soccer team fell to top-seeded Jackson State 4-0 Thursday morning in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament at Lady Panther Soccer Field.

The Lady Hornets battled evenly through much of the first half before Jackson State broke through late in the period. Caylah Williams put the Lady Tigers on the board in the 44th minute off an assist from Sarah Portis, giving JSU a 1-0 halftime lead.

Jackson State's attack stayed hot after the break, striking three more times to pull away. Zaniyah Gonzague scored just 93 seconds into the second half to double the advantage, and Williams added her second goal of the day in the 67th minute off an assist from Asia Wilson. Josetiarainnah Olaco capped the scoring two minutes later with an unassisted goal to make it 4-0.

Emmanuella Yapi led Alabama State with two shots, including one on target, while Serenity Safeeullah, Zeta Chevalier, and McKinley Hacker each added one attempt. Goalkeeper Corrine Brookes finished with five saves in the match.

Jackson State held a 14-5 advantage in total shots and a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. Alabama State earned two corner kicks and committed nine fouls, while the Lady Tigers totaled three corners and eight fouls.
