TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Alabama State opened its 2025–26 men's basketball season with a tough road test, falling 101–64 to Florida State on Friday night at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
The Hornets (0–1) hung close early but couldn't keep pace with the hot-shooting Seminoles (2–0), who hit 18 three-point field goals and shot 47.3% from the floor and 38.3 percent on their three-point field goals.
Asjon Anderson led Alabama State with 16 points, connecting on three triples while adding five assists and four rebounds. Trey Miller and Micah Simpson each chipped in nine points, while Tyler Mason and R'Chaun King scored eight apiece.
Although the taller Seminoles out rebounded the Hornets, ASU battled hard and pulled down 35 rebounds with Damarien Yates finishing with a team-high and tying for game-high honors with nine, whule Mason finished with six to go with his eight points.
Florida State used a balanced attack with six players in double figures, led by Lajae Jones' 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Kobe MaGee added 16 points and four assists, while Chauncey Wiggins and Robert McCray V each scored 12. The Seminoles dominated the boards 49–35 and outscored the Hornets 32–14 in second-chance points.
The Hornets had seven players seeing their first action as a member of the ASU program. Alabama State shot 35.4% from the field and 30.4% from three-point range.
Alabama State will continued the season-opening road trip with a game up I-65 in Birmingham, when they face the Blazers of UAB on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 6: 30 p.m.
