AUBURN, Ala. — Alabama State University women's basketball fell 82–41 to Auburn University on Saturday inside Neville Arena.
Senior guard Ny'Keria Flowers led the Lady Hornets with seven points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Caylee Simpson added nine points and six boards off the bench. Charlese McClendon and Amari Franklin chipped in five points apiece as Alabama State's bench combined for 20 points in the season debut for head coach Johnetta Hayes.
Auburn used an early 8–2 burst to take control in the opening quarter and led 19–11 after the first 10 minutes. The Tigers maintained their momentum behind Mya Petticord, who scored 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting with four assists. Ja'Mia Harris added 16 points, while Kaitlyn Duhon contributed 14.
The Lady Hornets trailed 37–23 at halftime before Auburn broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring ASU 27–4 to put the contest out of reach. Alabama State continued to battle in the fourth, with Flowers and Simpson combining for 11 of the team's 14 points down the stretch.
Alabama State shot 26.9 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from three-point range while grabbing 44 rebounds, including 12 on the offensive glass.
The Lady Hornets return home to host Talladega College for their home opners on Monday, November 10 at 6 p.m..
