Alabama State Downs AUM for Convincing Home Victory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University women's basketball turned in a commanding performance inside Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Monday night, rolling past Auburn University at Montgomery 70–41 in a non-conference matchup.

The Hornets seized control early, producing a suffocating defensive effort that held AUM to just six first-quarter points while taking a 16–6 lead after 10 minutes. The momentum continued to build into halftime, where Alabama State carried a 38–18 advantage. The Hornets out-paced the Warhawks in fast-break scoring, points off turnovers, and bench production throughout the evening.

Alabama State's balanced scoring effort saw 12 players find the scoresheet. Alanah Pooler and Kaia Ponder powered the offense early—Pooler finished with 12 points and five rebounds, while Ponder added nine points and four boards. Charlese McClendon sparked the Hornets off the bench with 11 points, and Ny'Keria Flowers contributed eight points, three assists, and four rebounds. Amari Franklin added five points along with three steals to energize the defense.

As a team, the Hornets shot 42.9 percent from the field and tallied 50 bench points. Alabama State controlled the paint with a 42–16 scoring advantage and turned 33 AUM turnovers into 28 points. The Hornets' largest lead reached 33 late in the third quarter as the outcome was never in doubt.

Alabama State's momentum held  AUM to just 25.5 percent from the field.

The Hornets travel to Waco, Texas, to battle nationally ranked Baylor University on Tuesday, December 9 at 11 a.m.
