STARKVILLE, Miss. | Shamia Reid scored 12 points as Alabama State University fell Mississippi State 105-57 on Wednesday night at Humphrey Coliseum.
The Bulldogs (11-1) set the tone early, racing to a 34-10 lead after the first quarter and taking a commanding 59-19 advantage into halftime. Mississippi State shot 50 percent from the field for the game and held Alabama State to 36.2 percent, forcing 21 turnovers that led to 26 points
Francis was highly efficient, finishing 12 of 16 from the field while adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. Favour Nwaedozi added 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting, and Jaylah Lampley contributed 12 points. Mississippi State also received balanced production off the bench, with 37 bench points, and finished with a 49-34 rebounding edge.
Alabama State (3-7) was led by Shamya Reid, who scored 12 points. Alanah Pooler added nine points, and Takaya Walters-Norman chipped in six. The Hornets struggled offensively in the opening half, shooting 27.8 percent in the first quarter and 33.3 percent in the second while missing all five 3-point attempts in the opening period.
Mississippi State continued to extend the margin after the break, outscoring Alabama State 24-14 in the third quarter to push the lead to 83-33 entering the final period. Alabama State showed improved efficiency in the fourth quarter, shooting 53.8 percent and scoring 24 points, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
