Alabama State falls at Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | The Alabama State Univeristy women's basketball team fell 71-40 to the Bethune-Cookman University on Saturday.

O'Mariyah Tucker recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Hornets (5-16, 3-6). Kristian Jackson tacked on four points and four steals and Taylor Smith helped out with seven points from the bench.

Led by Tucker's four offensive rebounds, Alabama State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 16 boards that resulted in 14 second chance points.

Alabama State forced 15 Bethune-Cookman turnovers. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 11 points on the other end of the floor. Jackson's four steals led the way for Alabama State.

How It Happened

Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 11-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 28-13 halftime deficit.

Alabama State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 58-24 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Alabama State took advantage of four Bethune-Cookman turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of takeaways.

Alabama State narrowed its deficit to 61-30 before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Tucker's three, to shrink the deficit to 61-35 with 4:09 to go in the contest. Bethune-Cookman responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 71-40. Alabama State took advantage of five Bethune-Cookman turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
