MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University women's basketball fell 48-33 to the Southern Jaguars at Dunn-Oliver Acadome Thursday.
Kaitlyn Bryant led the Hornets (5-17, 3-7) with 12 points and two steals. Alanah Pooler added five points from the bench and Taylor Smith chipped in as well with four points.
Alabama State out-rebounded Southern 38-37 in Thursday's game, led by six boards from O'Mariyah Tucker. The Hornets also collected 15 offensive rebounds and scored 10 second chance points.
Alabama State forced 19 Southern turnovers. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 11 points on the offensive end of the floor. Bryant's two steals led the way for Alabama State.
How It Happened
Alabama State kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 13-9.
The Hornets fought back in the second period, narrowing the deficit to 21-18 by the time halftime rolled around.
Alabama State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 37-29 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Alabama State took advantage of seven Southern turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of takeaways.
Alabama State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 48-33. Alabama State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring four of its four points in the paint.
