MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State women's basketball team fell 48-40 to the Florida A&M Univeristy at the Dunn-Oiver Acadome on Saturday.
Cordasia Harris led the Hornets (6-21, 4-11) with six points, 13 rebounds, two steals and three blocks. Amari Franklin also tacked on eight points and two steals and Kaitlyn Bryant helped out with 11 points.
Led by Harris' three offensive rebounds, Alabama State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in eight second chance points.
Alabama State's defense held Florida A&M to only 29.3 percent shooting from the field, including 23.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Hornets also limited Cheyenne McEvans to 3-of-12 shooting in the game.
How It Happened
Alabama State started out the scoring by going on an 8-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Harris, to take an early lead with 6:38 left in the first quarter. Florida A&M then responded to tie things up at 10-10 heading into the second quarter. Alabama State took advantage of two offensive rebounds to score three second chance points out of 10 total in the period
The Rattlers then took control in the second quarter and the Hornets entered haltime behind 27-19.
Alabama State came out of halftime on fire, going on an 8-0 run to tie things up at 27 with 5:33 to go in the third. The Hornets could not advance their rally further as the Rattlers took a 38-31 lead into the fourth quarter. Alabama State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.
Alabama State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 48-40. Alabama State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its nine points.
