Bama State Softball Falls to Northwestern State and Mississippi State at Bulldog Invite

Game 1 vs. Northwestern State

STARKVILLE, Miss.  | The Alabama State University fell 9-8 in eight innings to Northwestern State University in game one of the Bulldog Invitational on Friday. 

Freshman Kaitlyn Hill (0-6) got the ball to start for Alabama State (1-15) and took the loss.

In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by junior Alana Scott, who went 2-for-4 on the day with two doubles, a walk and an RBI. Junior Brooke Ramsey compiled a standout effort as well, going 3-for-3 with two walks and an RBI. Senior Leah Richardson also contributed for Alabama State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding two walks and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Alabama State got an RBI single from junior JaNiyah Boykin, scoring Ramsey from third base.

The Hornets then held the Demons scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Ramsey's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Alabama State scored twice, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Hornets.

Alabama State held Northwestern State scoreless before building their lead to 5-0 the following inning. The Hornets scored twice, with one run coming across on freshman Talee Sims' single.

Alabama State held the Demons scoreless before their offense got things moving the next inning. The Hornets sent home two runs when a single from Richardson scored freshman Meshayla Pettaway and Ramsey, bringing the score to 7-0 in favor of Alabama State.

Northwestern State got within 7-6 until the Hornets scored again in the sixth inning to stretch its lead to 8-6. Alabama State pushed across a run on Scott's RBI double. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as Northwestern State scored three times over the remaining two innings to grab the 9-8 win.

The Alabama State University softball team fell to No. 21 Mississippi State University 17-2  in game two fo the Bulldog Invitational on Friday.

Freshman Mason Quinnie (0-5) got the ball to start for Alabama State (1-16) and took the loss.

Offensively, the Hornets were led by Ramsey, who went 1-for-3 on the day with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State scored twice, with one run coming across on Ramsey's single. Mississippi State then scored 15 times over the remaining three innings to break the tie and grab the 17-2 win.
