TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Amarr Knox totaled 32 points to help lead the Alabama State men's basketball team past the Florida A&M Rattlers 67-66 on the road Monday.
The Hornets (9-13, 5-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Knox, who had 32 points. TJ Madlock tacked on a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and CJ Hines helped out with 13 points.
Led by Micah Octave's four offensive rebounds, Alabama State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in 11 second-chance points.
The Alabama State defense held Florida A&M shooters to 36.7 percent from the field.
How It Happened
After falling behind 12-11, Alabama State went on an 11-0 run with 15:05 left in the first half, culminating in a three from TJ Madlock, to take a 22-12 lead. Alabama State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 40 points.
Alabama State started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 45-35 with 16:28 to go in the contest. The Rattlers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game ended, but the Hornets still held on for the 67-66 win. Alabama State took care of business in the paint, recording 14 of its 27 points in the lane.
