Alabama State tallies 6 runs in loss to Nicholls

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | An six-run offensive output was not enough for Alabama State Un versity softball fell to Nicholls State Ybuver 12-6 on Saturday at the Barbara Williams Softball Classic.

Freshman Mason Quinnie (0-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Alabama State (0-3).

Offensively, the Hornets were paced by junior Brooke Ramsey, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a triple and two RBI. Senior Leah Richardson put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Jaibriel Terrell also contributed for Alabama State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board.

The Colonels then rallied to score 10 runs and take an 11-3 lead before the Hornets got back on the board in the fifth. which tightened the Colonels lead to 11-6. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Nicholls added one run to their tally on the way to a 12-6 final.

» Alabama State pitchers faced 42 Nicholls hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and 10 fly balls.
» Ramsey led the Hornets at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.
» Nicholls was led offensively by junior Reagan Heflin, who went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
» Junior Sierra Ouellette led the Colonels pitching staff, throwing three innings of three-run ball.
