Hornets Crush Bulldogs on Senior Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Amarr Knox totaled 22 points, CJ Hines added 20, and the Alabama State men's basketball team knocked off the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 94-52 at home Saturday.

The Hornets (14-15, 10-6) had five players score in double figures, led by Knox, who had 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Hines added 20 points and Micah Simpson chipped in as well with 13 points off the bench.

The Alabama State offense was strong from three-point land, pouring 12 threes on 25 attempts. Simpson hit three treys for the Hornets in the contest.

Alabama State's defense held Alabama A&M to only 12.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 36.5 percent from the field.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 24-19 advantage, Alabama State went on an 8-0 run with 4:37 left in the first half to increase its lead to 32-19. The Hornets added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 37-23 advantage. Alabama State took advantage of four offensive rebounds to score seven second-chance points out of 37 total in the period

Alabama State started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on a 10-0 run to grow the lead to 47-23 with 18:01 to go in the contest. The Hornets kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 94-52 win. Alabama State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting nine shots from deep to score 27 of its 57 points.
