MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University softball split a conference doubleheader with instate rival Alabama A&M, winning game one 7-6 before dropping the night cap 8-4 on Satuday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
GAME 1 | Alabama State 7, Alabama A&M 6
Alana Scott highlighted six run sixth inning as Alabama State rallied for a 7-6 in over Alabama A&M in game one Saturday's doubleheader at the Barbara Williams Softball Comple.
The Hornets got three hits out of freshman Jaibriel Terrell in a 7-6 win over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs Saturday.
Sophomore Kohana Pouson (3-6) got the win for Alabama State (4-23, ). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on nine hits, allowing no walks and striking out one.
Terrell's three-hit day led the Hornets offensively. Junior Alana Scott put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Freshman Talee Sims also contributed for Alabama State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 5-0, the Hornets first put a run on the board in the fourth inning. Sims came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board.
The Hornets kept the deficit at 5-1 before taking the lead in the fifth. The Alabama State offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Scott, which brought the Hornets lead to 7-5. Alabama A&M put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Alabama State still held on for the 7-6 win.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --Though they had plenty of opportunities, Alabama State struggled to cash them in, leaving 10 Hornets on base in an 8-4 defeat at the hands of the Alabama A&M in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Sophomore Kohana Pouson (3-7) started and took the loss in the circle for Alabama State (4-24, ). The right-hander went four innings, giving up five runs, zero earned, on six hits. Freshman Mason Quinnie was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going three innings, surrendering three runs, one earned, on two hits, walking one and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the first inning. Alabama State got on the board thanks to freshman Talee Sims' RBI double with one out.
The Hornets deficit expanded to 8-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the sixth inning. which brought the score to 8-4 in favor of the Bulldogs. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
