MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Kameron Douglas went 1-for-4 with a home run and an RBI, but Alabama State University came up short in a 5-2 loss to Florida A&M University on Saturday.
Sophomore Jafet Martinez (3-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Alabama State (9-15, ). The right-hander went four innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out four. Freshman Trey Power was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 3.1 innings, surrendering two runs, zero earned, on four hits, walking one and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State got an RBI single from junior Wilbert Espinal, scoring sophomore Quentin Jenkins from third base.
The Hornets deficit grew to 3-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fourth inning. Alabama State picked up a run on Douglas' leadoff home run off of freshman Garrett Workman, which tightened the Rattlers lead to 3-2. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Florida A&M added two runs to their tally on the way to a 5-2 final.
