PINE BLUFF, Ark. | The Alabama State University baseball team rallied from a 4-2 defict and had to hold off a late Arkansas-Pine Bullf charge to earn a 9-8 win on Friday.
Jorhan Laboy (3-2) got the win for Alabama State (11-16, 4-3). The southpaw went six innings, giving up four runs, two of them earned, on 11 hits, allowing no walks and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Junior Kameron Douglas put Alabama State on the board with a two-out solo home run off junior Kenny Fabian.
The Hornets lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 3-1. Alabama State picked up a run on Douglas' leadoff home run off of Fabian, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Golden Lions.
UAPB expanded their lead to 4-2 before the Alabama State offense got back in action, overtaking the Golden Lions to grab a 9-4 advantage in the seventh. The Hornets bats heated up in the inning, scoring seven runs, including a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Juan Cruz. UAPB put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Alabama State still held on for the 9-8 win.
