MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Freshman Bailee Williams had RBI to help propel the Alabama State University softball past Bethune-Cookman University, 8-1, at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex on Friday.
Kohana Pouson (4-9) got the win in the circle for Alabama State (6-21). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.
Williams went 2-for-2 with a double and a home run in addition to her four RBI for the Hornets. Junior Alana Scott furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the second inning. Williams put Alabama State on the board with a one-out solo home run off senior Halyne Gonzalez.
The score stayed at 1-1 until the very next inning, when the Hornets put runs on the scoreboard once again. The Alabama State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Williams, which brought the Hornets lead to 5-1.
Alabama State held Bethune-Cookman scoreless before expanding their lead to 8-1 the following inning. The Hornets scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Scott that scored sophomore Makenzie Owens and junior Brooke Ramsey. The score remained 8-1 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State coasted to the win.
