MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University softball swept a doubleheader from Bethune-Cookman winning 2-1 in extra innings and 10-6 in the nightcap to sweep the three-game series on Satuday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
GAME 1 | Alabama State 2, Bethune-Cookman 1 (8 inn.)
MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The Alabama State Hornets needed eight innings to finish the job, but pulled off the 2-1 extra-innings win, walking it off with freshman Jaibriel Terrell at the plate to claim victory over the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Saturday.
Freshman Mason Quinnie (3-6) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Alabama State (7-26, ). The right-hander went six shutout innings while giving up three hits, allowing three walks and striking out two.
Offensively, the Hornets were paced by sophomore Makenzie Owens, who went 1-for-1 on the day with two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Owens came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth, when Alabama State walked it off when junior Alana Scott came across to score.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --Freshman Talee Sims racked up four RBI to help lead the Alabama State Hornets over the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 10-6 on Saturday.
Sophomore Kohana Pouson (5-9) started in the circle and picked up the win for Alabama State (8-26, ). The right-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up six runs, one earned, on 10 hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.
Sims went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Hornets. Freshman Bailee Williams compiled a standout performance as well, going 2-for-2 with two walks. Sophomore Mickey Coslor also helped out for Alabama State, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Alabama State got an RBI single from junior Brooke Ramsey, scoring Coslor from second base.
The Wildcats failed to push any runs across before the Hornets offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Coslor, which brought the Hornets lead to 2-0.
Bethune-Cookman narrowed Alabama State's lead to 2-1 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 5-1 in the third inning. Sims' bases-clearing double drove in all three runs for the Hornets.
Alabama State held the Wildcats scoreless before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Hornets scored once on a run-scoring single off the bat of senior Leah Richardson, bringing the score to 6-1 in favor of Alabama State.
Bethune-Cookman got within 6-3 until the Hornets scored again in the sixth inning to stretch its lead to 10-3. The Alabama State offense piled up four runs, highlighted by a one-run walk off the bat of sophomore Makenzie Owens. Bethune-Cookman put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hornets still coasted to the 10-6 win.
