BATON ROUGE, Lal. | The Alabama State Univeristy women's basketball teamt fell 61-38 to the Southern University on Thursday.
Cordasia Harris led the Hornets (6-23, 4-13) with seven points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Taylor Smith also added 13 points off the bench and Ashley Gray chipped in as well with six points.
Alabama State forced 13 Southern turnovers. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 10 points on the other end of the floor. Kristian Jackson led the way individually with two steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 15-4, Alabama State went on a 5-0 run with 1:53 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Amari Franklin, to narrow its deficit to 15-9. Southern answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 19-12 entering the second quarter.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 29-20 halftime deficit.
Alabama State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 51-27 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Alabama State knocked down one three-pointer in the quarter to score three of its seven total points.
Alabama State narrowed its deficit in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump, losing 61-38. Alabama State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring three of its 11 total points.
