GRAMBLING, La. -- TJ Madlock collected a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Alabama State men's basketball team over the Grambling Tigers 59-47 on the road Saturday.
The Hornets (16-15, 12-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Madlock, who had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Amarr Knox tacked on 14 points and two steals and CJ Hines chipped in with 10 points and three steals.
Ubong Okon pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead the Alabama State offense which grabbed 14 boards and turned them into nine second-chance points.
Alabama State forced 14 Grambling turnovers while committing only eight themselves in Saturday's game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 20 points on the offensive end of the floor. Hines' three steals led the way for Alabama State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 21-17, Alabama State went on a 5-0 run with 2:51 left in the first half to take a 22-21 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 24-22.
After intermission, Alabama State gained control and had a 35-33 lead before going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Knox's three, to grow the lead to 46-33 with 7:38 to go in the contest. The Tigers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hornets still cruised the rest of the way for the 59-47 win. Alabama State took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 37 points in the lane.
