Douglas totals 3 hits in Alabama State's loss to Jacksonville State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Kameron Douglas strung together three hits, but the Alabama State Hornets fell to the Jacksonville State University 12-6 at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex on Tuesday.

Sophomore Jafet Martinez (3-3) got the ball to start for Alabama State (13-17) and took the loss. Junior Jaxon Christensen was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits.

In addition to his three hits, Douglas had two doubles to lead the Hornets. Sophomore Isaiah Landry put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-5 with a triple and three RBI. Senior Kyler McIntosh also contributed for Alabama State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 6-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Alabama State managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The Gamecocks expanded their lead to 7-2 before the Hornets offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. Alabama State scored a run when senior Mikel Pryor drew a walk from junior Joe Scarborough that scored sophomore Juan Cruz, which tightened the Gamecocks lead to 7-3.

Alabama State held the Gamecocks off the board before narrowing the gap to 7-6 in the sixth. Landry's bases-clearing triple scored all three runs in the frame for the Hornets. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Jacksonville State added five runs to their tally on the way to a 12-6 final.
